BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins men's basketball wrapped up the regular season with a 92-76 road victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday night at Rockefeller Gymnasium. The win secured the Senators (11-17, 7-13 MEC) the No. 8 seed in the upcoming Mountain East Conference Tournament, where they will face No. 9 Wheeling in the first round on March 5 at 8:30 p.m.
D&E delivered a strong offensive performance, shooting 52.5% from the field while knocking down 11 three-pointers. Charleston Ponds paced the Senators with 17 points, including a pair of threes, while Dontrell Jenkins added 12 points, four assists, and two steals. Emmanuel Oladeru provided a boost off the bench, contributing 13 points and four rebounds.
The Senators led 43-34 at halftime and extended their advantage in the second half, outscoring the Bobcats 49-42 to close out the win. Nicolas Silva and Isaiah Buckley each chipped in 12 points, while Ben Gilliam recorded a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Bobcats struggled from deep, hitting just 7-of-25 three-pointers, and were out-rebounded 40-28.
MEC Postseason Play
With the win, Davis & Elkins locks in the No. 8 seed in the MEC Tournament and will take on Wheeling in the first round on Wednesday, March 5, at 8:30 p.m. The winner will advance to face top-seeded and nationally-ranked No. 7 West Liberty in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 7, at 6 p.m. The five-day tournament, which is presented by The Health Plan, runs from Wednesday, March 5 to Sunday, March 9 at Wheeling's WesBanco Arena.
