ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins opened its home schedule Wednesday night at the McDonnell Center, falling 86–53 to Fairmont State in Mountain East Conference play.
The Senators (0–6, 0–1 MEC) stayed competitive early, with Kylie Morris and Madison Mims providing the first baskets to keep the game within reach. But turnovers and second-chance points allowed the Falcons (7–1, 2–0 MEC) to build momentum, taking a 19–10 lead after the first quarter and extending the margin with a strong second period to go up 49–20 at halftime.
Jahniya Marion led D&E with 21 points, attacking the lane throughout the night and going 7 of 11 at the free-throw line. Jatia Markes added 10 points, while Morris and Mims combined for 11.
D&E's best stretch came in the fourth quarter, where the Senators outscored Fairmont State 18–11 and forced several turnovers to close the gap. Despite the late push, Fairmont State's advantage on the boards and inside scoring proved too much to overcome.
The Senators return home Saturday for another MEC matchup, hosting Frostburg State at 2 p.m. in the McDonnell Center.
