Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins women's basketball dropped a Mountain East Conference matchup Wednesday evening, falling to Wheeling, 71–50, inside the Alma McDonough Center.
The Cardinals opened with a 19–9 first quarter and carried a 36–18 lead into halftime. D&E played its strongest stretch after the break, scoring 16 points in each of the final two periods and shooting 10 of 15 at the line in the second half, but Wheeling maintained control with efficient shooting and rebounding advantages.
Jahniya Marion led Davis & Elkins with 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting and played a team-high 33 minutes. Briyanna Sapp followed with 14 points, five rebounds and three steals, scoring 10 of her points after the break.
Deylana Forrest added five points, four rebounds and one assist, while Kylie Morris finished with five points and four rebounds. Koi Shabazz and Sydney Prince each grabbed five boards off the bench.
As a team, Davis & Elkins shot 17-of-57 (29.8 percent) from the field and outrebounded Wheeling on the offensive glass 12–7, but was limited to just 1-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc and committed 19 turnovers.
The Senators return home following the holiday break, hosting West Liberty on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. inside the McDonnell Center in Elkins, W.Va.
