Box Score ELKINS, W. Va. - The Davis & Elkins men's basketball team put five players in double figures and shot 48 percent from the field, but Wheeling used a strong second-half push to hand the Senators a 92-84 MEC road loss Wednesday night inside the Alma McDonough Center.
The teams entered halftime tied 48-48 after a high-tempo opening 20 minutes that featured nine lead changes and nine ties. Davis & Elkins connected on 18 field goals before the break, including five 3-pointers, while forcing the Cardinals into five first-half turnovers.
Wheeling found separation midway through the second half behind timely 3-point shooting and an advantage in fast-break scoring, outpacing D&E 44-36 after halftime. The Cardinals finished 11-of-32 from deep and scored 16 fast-break points to improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in league play.
D&E received a team-leading scoring effort from guard Matthew Gray, who posted 18 points and went 10-for-13 from the foul line. Vegas Evans delivered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while adding two assists and one block in 36 minutes.
Dontrell Jenkins scored 15 points (6-of-10 FG, 3-of-5 3PT) with four assists, while Noah Adamczyk added 12 points. Darrius Roach chipped in 14 points off the bench, knocking down two 3-pointers in 27 minutes.
Junior guard Malachi Hampton totaled seven points and seven rebounds, and D&E finished with 36 bench points and 36 points in the paint.
Wheeling was led by Ayden Goll's 30-point performance, including an 11-for-11 night at the free-throw line. The Cardinals shot 52 percent overall and posted a 34-30 rebounding advantage.
Davis & Elkins returns home to begin 2026, hosting No. 12 nationally ranked West Liberty on Saturday, Jan. 3, inside the McDonnell Center. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. in Elkins, W. Va.
