ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins College men's wrestling team competed in four duals Saturday at the Averett University Cougar Duals, earning wins over Averett and posting multiple individual victories throughout the day.
The Senators opened the event with a 37-13 loss to host Averett. Davis & Elkins picked up wins at 141 and 149 pounds, as Ben McComas earned an 8-6 decision over Mauricio Reyes and Logan Powell recorded a 16-4 major decision against Luke Zadrazil. Gavin Hardister added a pin at 184 pounds.
D&E then fell 41-14 to the Apprentice School in its second dual. McComas and Powell continued strong performances, each collecting technical fall victories at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. Jeston Showalter also earned a 14-1 major decision at 157 pounds.
The Senators rebounded in their third match with a 34-17 victory over Averett. Davis & Elkins won seven bouts, highlighted by falls from Powell at 149 pounds and McComas by forfeit at 141. Geovani Santos (157), Showalter (165), Ethan Lopez-Rosales (133), Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro (184), and Liam Young (174) each added decision or bonus-point wins to secure the team victory.
Davis & Elkins closed the day with a 40-12 loss to Ferrum. McComas remained unbeaten on the day with another victory at 141 pounds, while Powell earned a 9-3 decision at 149. Showalter added a 4-1 sudden-victory win at 157 pounds.
The Senators return to action Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Hilltopper Duals, hosted by West Liberty University in West Liberty, W. Va.
