Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins men's soccer wrapped up its regular season Wednesday evening with a 2-1 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan in Mountain East Conference action at Culpepper Stadium.
The Bobcats opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Chris Gonzalez put the hosts in front, and they doubled their lead early in the second half as Blair Sinclair found the back of the net in the 49th minute.
The Senators continued to fight and broke through in the 67th minute when senior Trabi Diakite netted his first goal with the program to cut the deficit in half. D&E outshot the Bobcats 11-5 and held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal but couldn't find the equalizer in the final minutes.
Andreas Petrou, Chinedu Ikem, and Josiah Bobb each registered shots on goal, while goalkeeper Charlie Phillips tallied one save in a full 90 minutes of play.
With the result, Davis & Elkins finishes the regular season at 7-6-4 overall and 7-5-4 in conference play, earning the No. 5 seed in the MEC Tournament. The Senators will travel to No. 4 Frostburg State for a quarterfinal matchup on Sunday, November 9th at 4 p.m.
