ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins wrestling earned a 28–20 victory over Division I Mercyhurst on Friday night inside the McDonnell Center, using a run of bonus-point wins in the middle and upper weights to take control of the dual.
After dropping the opening bout at 125, the Senators answered at 133, where Ethan Lopez-Rosales claimed a 6–3 decision to even the early score.
D&E then built momentum with back-to-back dominant wins. At 141, Benjamin McComas rolled to a 15–0 technical fall in seven minutes, and at 149, Logan Powell added a 10–4 decision to extend the lead. Jeston Showalter followed at 157 with another tech fall, 17–2 in 2:55, widening the gap.
Mercyhurst responded at 165 and 174, but the Senators sealed the dual with two straight pins in the upper weights. Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro secured a fall at 184 in 2:05, and Gavin Hardister added another at 197 in 4:33 to put the match out of reach.
Mercyhurst closed the night with a fall at heavyweight, but the Senators had already secured the win.
Davis & Elkins returns to action on Dec. 5 for an MEC road dual at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, W.Va.
