Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Davis & Elkins men's basketball came up just short in a tight road matchup Saturday evening, falling 71–68 to Slippery Rock at Morrow Field House.
Matthew Gray led the Senators with 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting, including four 3-pointers, while adding nine rebounds. Vegas Evans posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, anchoring D&E inside and keeping the Senators within one possession through the final minute.
D&E opened strong behind early 3s from Gray and held multiple leads in a back-and-forth first half that featured seven ties. The Senators trailed 34–32 at halftime.
Slippery Rock used a pair of scoring bursts early in the second half to build a small cushion, but D&E continued to chip away at the margin. The Senators tied the game at 34–34 moments into the period on free throws by Evans and later pulled within a single point in the final minutes.
Gray knocked down a jumper with just over a minute remaining to make it a one-possession game, but the Senators were unable to convert late as Slippery Rock held on at the foul line.
Darris Roach contributed 10 points and three assists, while Noah Adamczyk added nine points and a block. D&E finished with 43 rebounds, including 16 on the offensive glass.
The loss moves the Senators to 1–2 on the season.
Davis & Elkins returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 19, with a 6 p.m. road matchup at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa.
