ELKINS, W.Va. — The Davis & Elkins men's swim team powered past Fairmont State on Friday evening at the George A. Myles Pool, earning a 170-62 victory. The women's team collected several individual and relay wins despite falling 152-93 to the Falcons.
On the men's side, D&E swept several events, led by Leonardo Oshiro's win in the 50-yard breaststroke (26.81) and Jan Spehar's victory in the 50-yard backstroke (25.08). Spehar also touched first in the 100-yard freestyle (47.65) and added a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle (1:48.92).
Charlie Whitsed won the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.86, while Payton Williamson claimed the 100-yard backstroke (54.08) and the 200 freestyle (1:48.36). Leonardo Vallerini earned victories in both distance events, taking the 1000-yard freestyle (10:39.23) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.47).
Lasse Schrieken turned in a pair of top finishes with wins in the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.65) and 100-yard butterfly (56.82).
The Senators capped the meet with a decisive win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Schrieken, Spehar, Vallerini and Williamson clocked a time of 3:13.07 to close out the night.
On the women's side, Davis & Elkins notched key victories throughout the meet. Julianne Hobson won the 50-yard butterfly (27.59), 100-yard butterfly (1:04.00), and teamed up with Lauren Lockwood, Daphne McCann and Savannah Foley to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:46.74. Lockwood also claimed the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.02), while Foley finished runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle event.
Additional points came from McCann, who placed third in the 50 backstroke and the 100 backstroke, and from freshman Anikka Peterson, who earned second in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.
The Senators will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 8, when they host Wheeling University in a Mountain East Conference meet at 1 p.m. inside the George A. Myles Pool.
