Senators Hold Strong in Regional Cross Country Rankings

ELKINS, W.Va. — Both the Davis & Elkins College men's and women's cross country teams continued to make their mark on the regional stage this week, with the women holding the top spot and the men ranked third in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The D&E women's squad remained No. 1 in the region following a strong performance at the Louisville Cross Country Classic, where the Senators placed 22nd overall in a highly competitive field. The team posted an impressive 42-second spread and was bested only by a handful of nationally ranked programs, including West Texas A&M, Catawba, Cedarville, and UW-Parkside.

On the men's side, Davis & Elkins climbed to No. 3 in the Atlantic Region after another standout showing in Louisville. Senior Jordan Thomas led the way for the Senators, finishing 24th overall in a field of 326 runners in the Gold Division — which featured numerous NCAA Division I programs and several nationally ranked Division II teams. Thomas clocked a time of 24:14.9, helping D&E secure a 15th-place team finish out of 40 programs with 437 points and an average team time of 25:07.86.

The USTFCCCA regional rankings are released weekly and determined by a committee of coaches in each region, considering both returning team strength and current-season results.

Davis & Elkins will return to competition on Friday, Oct. 10, at the Concord Invitational in Athens, W.Va.
