Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins women's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to West Virginia State Wednesday evening at Nuttall Field in Mountain East Conference play.
The Senators (1-8-5, 1-7-4 MEC) generated a strong second half with eight shots, pushing for a late equalizer before the Yellow Jackets secured the win.
West Virginia State (10-3-1, 9-1-1 MEC) took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when Laura Pouedras finished a pass from Leila Karam. The visitors added another in the 86th minute through Avril Amil Ruiz to close out the match.
Addyson Cogar paced Davis & Elkins with four shots, including two on goal. Valeria Gabrie added three attempts, while Sophia Brown, Taytum Walls, and Ava Sherman each recorded one.
Goalkeeper Gabriela Acevedo finished with four saves as D&E totaled 10 shots and five corner kicks on the night.
The Senators return to action Sunday, traveling to Glenville, West Virginia, to face Glenville State at 2 p.m.
