ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins women's soccer team battled through steady rain to earn a 1-1 draw against North Division leader Fairmont State on Sunday evening at Nuttall Field. The match also served as the Senators' Senior Day and Code Red game, celebrating five seniors before kickoff.
Frederique Morin, Alena Armstrong, Catalina Salas, Sasha Tristram and Julieta Fernandez were recognized for their impact and dedication to the program.
Fairmont State opened the scoring in the 30th minute, but the Senators answered back midway through the second half. Junior Taytum Walls netted her first goal of the season in the 73rd minute to bring the match level.
Goalkeeper Gabriela Acevedo made four saves for Davis & Elkins (1-7-5, 0-6-4 MEC), helping the Senators hold the division-leading Falcons in check despite the wet and slippery conditions. D&E finished with eight total shots, including six on target.
The Senators will remain home for their next match, hosting West Virginia State on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in Mountain East Conference play.
