Troutville, Va. -- The Senators have fought their way through the loser's bracket of the MEC Softball Tournament and have earned a trip to the championship round against the University of Charleston on Saturday. The Senators will need to defeat the Golden Eagles twice to win the MEC Championship. Friday's action saw the Senators defeat West Liberty in their first game and then pulled off an extra inning win against Notre Dame to advance to Saturday.
Game 1 vs West Liberty 12-1 Win
The Senators wasted no time getting the offense going as they scored six runs in the first inning.
Sharon Morales got the scoring started by stealing home which was followed by runs scoring on a fielder's choice, two throwing errors, a
Gweny Wessling sacrifice fly and a
Trinity Cossette RBI double.
Jules Gutierrez singled in a run in the second and the Senators erupted for five more runs in the third to make the score 12-1. Morales singled in a run in the third followed by RBI doubles by
Linzey Allard and
Lilly Saucedo.
Morales, Gutierrez and Cossette each collected two hits in the game.
Vanessa Hunt picked up the win in the circle by striking out four in five innings of work.
Game 2 vs Notre Dame 2-0 Win
The final game of the day was a pitcher's dual which took a 0-0 score into the eighth inning. The Senators would score two runs in the top of the eighth to pull out the win and advance to the MEC Championship.Â

Gweny Wessling with two outs to put the Senators ahead.
Linzey Allard followed with a single to put runners on the corners for
Lilly Saucedo who drove in another run with an RBI single.
Sammie Jarvis closed the door for the Senators throwing eight innings while scattering seven hits and striking out four batters.
