Bridgeport, W.Va. -- The Senators used strong pitching to shutout Salem University in both games of the doubleheader to pick up the sweep.
Vanessa Hunt and
Sammie Jarvis each threw complete games while only allowing seven hits and no runs on the day.
Game 1 vs Salem University 2-0 Win
The first game of the doubleheader saw both offenses struggle to get much going. The Senators would get on the board in the second inning when
Gweny Wessling singled in a run to make the score 1-0.Â
Lilly Saucedo would add to the lead in the third when she singled in a run to give the Senators a 2-0 lead. That's all the support
Vanessa Hunt would need as she threw seven innings to pick up the win by scattering six hits and striking out two Salem hitters.
Saucedo went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Senator offense.
Game 2 vs Salem University 10-0 Win
The Senators offense would come alive in game two as they scored ten runs on fourteen hits.
Ashlyn Zapach would get the Senators on the board in the first inning with a 3-run homerun.
The Senators would add to their lead in the second inning when
Lilly Saucedo drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Zapach and
Linzey Allard would follow with RBI singles to make the Senator lead 6-0.
The Senators would cap their scoring with four runs in the fourth inning. Allard and
Jules Gutierrez each picked up RBI singles and
Gweny Wessling drove in two runs on a single.
Zapach was 2 for 3 with a run scored and four RBI.
Sharon Morales,
Trinity Fleming, Saucedo, Zapach and Allard each collected two hits in the game.
Sammie Jarvis threw her second consecutive complete game, one hit, shutout to pick up her 11th win of the season.
