ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College men's basketball team edged Elizabeth City State University 76-73 in what ended up being a tightly contested game Wednesday evening at the McDonnell Center.
The Senators (2-3) started strong, taking a 45-36 lead into halftime. Despite a late surge by the Vikings (3-2), D&E held on, fueled by key plays down the stretch.
Junior forward Nnadozie Okoroji led the Senators with a game-high 19 points, shooting 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Senior Charleston Ponds added 13 points, including three three-pointers, while Senior Sam Rolle IV also contributed 13 points and a team-high four steals.
Defensively, Malachi Hampton dominated the boards, collecting eight rebounds. Emmanuel Oladeru made his presence felt in the paint with a perfect 4-for-4 shooting night, finishing with eight points and two blocks.
The Senators capitalized on turnovers, scoring 20 points off ECSU's 12 miscues. D&E also controlled the three-point line, hitting 10-of-25 compared to ECSU's 6-of-20.
