Men's Cross Country Wins Paul Short Invitational, Women Post Strong Showing

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Davis & Elkins College men's cross country team continued its dominant season by winning the Paul Short Invitational, topping a field of 38 teams, including 21 Division I programs. The No. 1 ranked Senators showcased their depth, placing three runners in the top-10 and four in the top-25. The team's victory was especially impressive as they outpaced several top teams, including the No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 ranked teams in the Atlantic Region.

Junior Jan Thewes led the Senators with a stellar 2nd-place finish, clocking a time of 24:32.5. Senior Carter McKenna followed in 4th place, finishing in 24:45.9, while sophomore Charlie Stephenson rounded out the top-10 with a 9th-place effort at 24:57.3. Senior Jackson Gibson crossed the line in 25:22.3 to claim 25th place, and senior Gabe Conder added a 39th-place finish in 25:38.0.

On the women's side, Davis & Elkins delivered a strong performance, placing 15th overall—the second-highest finish by a Division II school—and beating out 13 Division I programs. The No. 2 Senators also finished ahead of Slippery Rock, the No. 1 ranked team in the Atlantic Region, a result that is likely to propel D&E to the top spot in the regional rankings.

Junior Savanna Hardman led the women's team with a 37th-place finish, completing the 6k race in 22:31.7. Sophomore Lydia Falkenstein followed closely behind in 44th place with a time of 22:39.2, and junior Lauren Twyman finished 57th in 22:45.9. Sophomore Rebecca Tellez added a 140th-place finish in 23:31.7, while Zoe Belshan and Ella Hesson finished 153rd and 156th, respectively, with times of 23:40.4 and 23:42.4.

The Senators' strong showing on both the men's and women's sides sets the stage for a promising postseason, as the men continue to solidify their dominance and the women position themselves as a top contender in the Atlantic Region.
