D&E Men Win Thundering Herd Invitational Handily, Women Third

McKenna Wins Individual Title, Falkenstein Third/Top DII Finisher

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.  -- The Davis & Elkins men won the Thundering Herd Invitational handily Friday evening and the Senator women finished third in another strong performance. The meet was hosted by Marshall University.

Junior Carter McKenna led the Senators to a commanding win by winning the individual title in a time of 24:35, followed closely by teammates junior Jackson Gibson and sophomore Jan Thewes at 24:40 and 24:46, respectively for an impressive 1-2-3 finish. Senior Henry Schmidt (24:50, 5th) and sophomore Konnor Allison (24:553, 6th) rounded out the team scoring. In total, D&E placed seven men in the top ten in the race.

The Senators set an 8K team scoring average school record (24:45) and had an impressive eleven runners under the 26-minute barrier, which was also a school record.

In the team standing, the Senators won with a remarkable seventeen points, easily distancing themselves ahead of the field's six other programs. Marshall University finished second. Morehead State was third. West Virginia Wesleyan (4th), Fairmont State (5th), Glenville State (6th), and WVU-Tech (7th) rounded out the field.

On the women's side, freshman Lydia Falkenstein helped the women's team to an impressive team showing with her individual third place finish and a time of 18:04. The team followed this with a strong pack attack, led by sophomore Lauren Twyman who finished in a time of 18:52. Twyman's time was good for an eleventh-place finish, just ahead of teammates: junior Ella Hesson, sophomore Savanna Hardman, and freshman Cameryn Wheeler at 19:00 (13th), 19:01(14th) and 19:09 (16th), respectively.

Also of note was the Senators' 18:49 5K team average to finish in third place as a team, behind only a pair of Division I programs in the field of seven programs (six complete teams). They distanced themselves well ahead of fellow Mountain East Conference programs West Virginia Wesleyan (4th), Fairmont State (5th), and Glenville State (6th).
