BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins split a Monday afternoon doubleheader with Notre Dame Monday.
GAME ONE
Notre Dame opened the scoring in the third inning when three Falcons crossed the plate.
D&E closed the gap when they scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and added the go-ahead run when they scored two more in the bottom of the sixth. The two fifth inning runs were scored when
Honesty Holt doubled, scoring Lorena Ruiz-Rubi and
Maddie Lavelle. In the sixth inning,
Sharon Morales doubled and scored
Trinity Fleming. Morales then scored on an
Anjolina Gutierrez single. D&E was up 4-3 following the sixth inning.
Notre Dame went ahead to stay in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs to win 5-4.
Guttierrez went three for four at the plate with an RBI. Holt was two for four with a pair of RBIs. Ruiz-Rubio, Holt, Fleming, and Morales each had doubles in the game.
Saylor Kneeland pitched two innings, giving up one hit and two earned runs, while striking out two.
Alexa Uphold pitched five innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs. She struck out four.
GAME TWO
The Senators jumped out early and their bats continued to warm up throughout the game in a 10-2 win in the second game of the doubleheader.
D&E opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when Ruiz-Rubi reached first on an error and
Linzey Allard and Lavelle scored.
In the third inning, Allard and Holt scored when Ruiz-Rubi singled and D&E went up 4-0.
Notre Dame tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning.
The Senators scored six runs in the fifth inning. Ruiz-Rubi again batted in a runner as Allard crossed the plate. Gutierrez walked with the bases loaded, scoring
Mia Ely. Morales then scored
Kailynn Parks on a single.
Maddie Lavelle closed out the scoring with a three-run RBI double, scoring Morales, Gutierrez, and Fleming.
Morales, Lavelle, Allard, and Ruiz-Rubio each had multiple hits in the game. Ruiz-Rubio had four RBIs, while Lavelle batted in three runners.
Vanessa Hunt pitched all five innings and picked up the win for D&E. She scattered five hits and two earned runs as she struck out two.
