SALEM, Va. – The Davis & Elkins College softball team opened play in the Mountain East Conference tournament today at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia. In game one D&E took on Fairmont State. The Falcons rallied late to steal a 10-9 win.
In game two the Senators would battle West Liberty in an elimination game. The Hilltoppers would score two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a 4-3 win and advance in the tournament.

The game went scoreless the first three and a half innings. Jules Guiterrez started a fourth inning scoring spree for the Senators. Guiterrez singled to right center to score
Kailynn Parks and
Linzey Allard. D&E would score five more runs in the inning highlighted by a three-run homer by
Mia Mendoza to take a 7-0 lead after four complete innings. Fairmont State scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Davis & Elkins would add a run in the bottom half of the inning on an Allard RBI single to make the score 8-4 after six complete innings. The Falcons scored four runs in the top of the seventh and kept the Senators off the board in the bottom half of the inning to force extras. FSU scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning and held D&E to a run in the bottom of the inning to steal the win and move into the winner's bracket of the MEC tournament.
Mendoza went 3-5 at the plate and drove in four runs. Allard was 2-5 with an RBI.
Kailynn Parks went 2-4 and scored twice. Guiterrez had two RBIs.

Davis & Elkins would jump out to a 3-0 in the top of the third inning. Allard hit a sac fly to right field to score
Sharon Morales. Mendoza scored on a wild pitch.
Kailynn Parks reached home on an RBI double by
Honesty Holt. West Liberty scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a pair of sacrifice flies. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh the Hilltoppers tied the game on a hit to shallow center field. Mendoza made a diving attempt on the play, but the ball dropped in. West Liberty's Katie Beeman connected on a game winning double to right center to advance the Hilltoppers in the MEC tournament.
Holt went 1-2 at the plate with an RBI. Allard was 1-3 with one run batted in. Guitterrez, Mendoza, and Morales each had one hit. Parks drew two walks and scored a run.
Shelby Hile gave a great effort inside the circle, giving up four runs, (two earned), on eight hits.
Davis & Elkins finishes their season 26-27 overall, they went 22-10 in the MEC.
West Liberty is 33-20-1 overall.
