GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Coach
Elle Fracker's Davis & Elkins College softball team traveled to Glenville today for a doubleheader with the Lady Pioneers. The Senators left Glenville with two wins. D&E took game one 5-3, game two the Senators routed GSU 13-2 in five innings.
Game One
Linzey Allard opened the scoring in the top of the fifth inning hitting a single to bring in
Mia Mendoza. In the top of the sixth inning
Maddie Lavelle connected on homer over the left field wall to put D&E on top 2-0.
Rachel Jones and
Trinity Cossette then hit back-to-back singles. With runners on first and second Mountain East Conference player of the week Mendoza came to the plate and smacked a double to center field to bring Jones and Cossette in. Glenville State would respond with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 4-3 heading to the seventh inning. Allard would add an insurance run for D&E hitting a bomb to center field to make the score 5-3.
Jenna Evans would shut down the Lady Pioneers in the bottom of seventh to secure the victory.
Mendoza continued her hot streak, going 3-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Allard went 2-4 with a home run and two RBI.
Honesty Holt was 2-3 with a double and one RBI. Jones added two hits followed by Cossette, Lavelle, and
Kailynn Parks each with one hit. Evans earned the win for the Senators, giving up three runs on four hits. Evans had four strikeouts.
Game Two
The Senators came out firing on all cylinders in game two scoring eight runs in the first inning. D&E would add five more runs on their way to five inning 13-2 win.
Cossette led Davis & Elkins going 2-2 with three RBI. Allard went 4-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Jones was 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Mendoza stayed hot going 3-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and scoring three runs. Holt was 2-4 with an RBI.
Ava Willis went the distance giving up two runs on three hits.
The Senators improve to 8-17 overall and 6-2 in the MEC.
The Lady Pioneers fall to 5-15 and 1-7 in the league.
D&E returns to action tomorrow morning, traveling to Morgantown for a doubleheader with Salem University.
