SALEM, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College men's basketball team traveled to Salem Monday night for their final non-conference contest of the season. In the end the Tigers were too much, winning 98-80.
Salem went on a 21-4 run midway through the first half and took a 16-point lead (54-38) to the locker room. A
Cortney Walton three at the 10:29 mark of second half cut the Tiger lead to just eight (74-66). Salem would respond with a 11-3 run and take an 85-69 lead with 6:46 remaining. The short-handed Senators could not cut into the Salem lead.
D&E was led by
Sam Rolle IV with 26 points. Rolle shot 8-12 from the field and 5-6 from three.
Charleston Ponds had 18 points and six rebounds followed
Ben Gilliam 13 and
Cortney Walton 11.
Tobias Howard Jr. had 38 points for Salem shooting 13-16 from the field and a sizzling 9-10 from three. Fonz Hale had 22.
D&E drops to 6-14 on the year.
Salem improves to 13-5.
The Senators return to action Wednesday night, traveling to Alderson Broaddus. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm inside Rex Pyles Arena.
