Softball Upended at Concord to End Regular Season

ATHENS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins softball wrapped up the 2021 regular season with a pair of losses to Concord, falling 5-3 and 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Davis & Elkins ends the 2021 campaign with an 11-21 record, while Concord pushes its record to 17-19 and 15-13 in league play.

Lilly Saucedo smacked the first pitch of her at-bat over the wall in right for a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one. The first inning homer was one of two hits in the opening game for Saucedo.

The Mountain Lions responded with two runs in the first, coming on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded and a walk for a 2-1 lead. From there, Concord added a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth for a 5-1 advantage.

Haley Grindstaff, who made the start in the circle in game one, laced a double to left center that scored Jenna Evans and Elyse Enriquez in the seventh. Grindstaff fanned six in the circle, logging six innings.

Kristen Malloy and Grindstaff had the only hits of the contest for the Senators in game two. The Mountain Lions pushed across three runs in the first and second innings to take an early 6-0 lead.

Grindstaff capped the season with an eight-game hitting streak for the Senators.
