BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - Davis & Elkins cross country runners
Emeric Arnaud and
Maya Brinson swept the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Cross Country Runner of the Week honors, the league announced Monday afternoon.
The duo placed first in the men's and women's races last week at the Davis & Elkins Winter Invitational, held at Glendale Park in Elkins. Arnaud, a sophomore from France, clocked a 15:00.81 in the 5K race to take first overall. Brinson, a freshman from Fairmont, posted an 18:29.96 in her collegiate debut for first place.
The tandem helped the Senators collect decisive team wins on both the men's and women's side in the only event prior to the MEC Cross Country Championships later this month. The times for Arnaud and Brinson were the fastest 5K time in the league so far in the winter season.
Arnaud's speedy 15:00.81 is believed to be a cross country program record, while Brinson's 18:29.96 is the third-fastest 5K race in the history of the D&E women's cross country program. Brinson was competing in her first official race since the 2019 West Virginia High School State Championships in May 2019.
Davis & Elkins will compete in the league's cross country championship on March 20 in Wheeling, while the track & field team opens the outdoor season on March 13-14 at Glenville State.
