CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins men's basketball dropped a 109-74 road decision to 20th-ranked Charleston (W.Va.) on Wednesday night.
Breland Walton had 20 points to pace Davis & Elkins (3-8) and
Gyasi Powell posted 17 more in 34 minutes.
Kyle Leslie chipped in 11 points and five boards, while
Sam Rolle IV notched 10 points in his return to the lineup.
Charleston (11-2), which pushed its winning streak to 11-straight games, owned a decisive 46-18 edge on the boards. Shunta Wilson dropped in 20 points (9-11 FG) and grabbed seven rebounds and teammate Keith Williams posted 18 points. Five players finished the night in double figures for the Golden Eagles and all 11 players that saw the floor found their way into the scoring column.
UC shot a torrid 69.4% from the floor in the opening half, making 10 three-point field goals in the opening 20 minutes. The Golden Eagles used a 25-6 run over the final seven minutes to jump ahead 63-33 at the intermission.
UC surged out to a 12-5 lead to start the game and quickly jumped ahead 35-25 in the first half. Davis & Elkins could not chip away as the Golden Eagles maintained control of their double-digit advantage throughout the second half.
Davis & Elkins is back home on Monday, February 22 for a rescheduled matchup with West Liberty beginning at 6:00 PM from the McDonnell Center.
