ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins edged West Virginia Wesleyan, 83-80, on Wednesday night at the McDonnell Center.
Davis & Elkins improved to 3-6 with the win, while West Virginia Wesleyan dropped to 0-11.
A close game throughout the night, D&E trailed 75-74 with 2:46 to go after a Cameron Ramage jumper. The Senators got back-to-back buckets, though, to take a 78-75 lead with still 1:34 to go.
After a pair of free throws from WVWC's Jaylin Reed made it a one-point game, D&E's
Kyle Leslie made two of his own from the charity stripe on the other end to push the lead back to three. The Bobcats had an empty possession and then forced a missed three, but
Teemu Tumanoff grabbed the offensive rebound and was immediately fouled to stop the clock. He drained his free throws to make it 82-77 with :17 seconds left.
Ramage drained a three with :07 seconds left and managed to put Tumanoff back at the free throw line where he made 1-of-2. WVWC's game-tying three would not go down and the Senators held on for the victory.
Breland Walton exploded for 33 points to lead D&E. He was 11-of-18 from the field and 11-of-11 from the free throw line. He also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
Gyasi Powell tossed in 20 points and had seven rebounds, while
Kyle Leslie scored 13. Tumanoff finished with 11 for the Senators.
Reed paced the Bobcats with 26 points. Ross Young had 21 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Ramage ended his night with 13 points.
