ELKINS, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins women's lacrosse allowed 12 second half goals in an 18-8 defeat to Edinboro on Wednesday afternoon at Nuttall Field.

Emily Smith led Davis & Elkins (1-3) offensively with five goals on nine shots, converting two of three free-position shots. Senior attack

Taylor Baker accounted for the Senators' other marker. In goal, senior
Surelys Baez made eight stops and kept the Senators within striking distance in the opening half.
Edinboro (2-2) used eight consecutive goals to break a 6-6 tie and surge ahead 14-6. Hailey Dobbins made the most of her scoring opportunities, converting five goals on seven shots. Gionna Alessandro and Sophie Depalma had three goals each, while Mary Uplinger notched two goals and added four assists.
The Fighting Scots converted the first three goals of the game for an early advantage before Baker scored on a free position attempt at 21:28 in the first half to put the Senators on the board. Smith wired one into the back of the net at 17:20, forcing an Edinboro timeout as D&E trailed 4-2.
Smith trimmed the deficit to one goal again at 11:36, finishing a pass from Horan.
The Fighting Scots answered for a 5-3 lead and hit several posts offensively as the margin stayed at two. Smith cashed in on a free-position tally to make it 5-4 before Edinboro added its own free position marker off the stick of Dobbins for a 6-4 halftime lead.
D&E was inspired to begin the second half, tying the game with the first two goals of the frame at 28:52 and 27:38. Edinboro pulled away for good with the eight goals for a 14-6 lead with 13;11 to play.
The Fighting Scots emerged with a 32-21 advantage in shots and narrowly won the battle for draw controls (14-13) against the Senators.
Hanna Bond scooped up four ground balls for D&E and caused one turnover. Horan,
Seana Soika and Baez picked up two ground balls each.
Davis & Elkins stays home in a busy stretch, welcoming Maryville to Nuttall Field on Friday, March 13 at 3:00 PM.
