Men’s Lacrosse Falters to Chestnut Hill

ELKINS, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins was outscored 16-3 between the second and third quarters in a 24-7 loss to Chestnut Hill on Sunday afternoon at Nuttall Field.

Chestnut Hill (3-1) opened with the first three tallies of the afternoon before Tyler Kolodka got Davis & Elkins (0-4) on the board at 9:38. Matthew Dyck brought D&E to within one at 3-2 with a marker at 7:39 and David Thorne Jr. made a save after a Griffins shot attempt rang off the crossbar.

The Senators had a pair of extra-man opportunities in the opening quarter with a chance to tie the game, but had four shots denied by Griffins' goalie Jake Miller.

Four goals for Chestnut Hill in a span of less than two minutes handed the visitors an 8-2 lead before the Griffins piled on three more for an 11-2 edge. Following a turnover, the Senators raced up the field before settling in the offensive zone as Kolodka delivered a feed to Dyck for his second goal of the game.

Trailing 11-3 heading into the third quarter, the Senators could not hold off Chestnut Hill's offense, which fired home the first four goals of the second half for a 15-3 lead. The Griffins eventually doubled up D&E in scoring in the fourth quarter, accounting for the 24-7 final margin.

Thorne Jr. had double-digit saves once again, facing 40 or more shots for the third time this season.

D&E looks to bounce back on Tuesday, March 3 with a road clash at Newberry set for 7:00 PM.
