Softball Drops Two Games to Newberry

  • After Newberry took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, Rhetta Persinger's fourth-inning double put the Senators on the board.
  • Amy Fincham's single cut the deficit to two, scoring Olivia Smith.
  • Newberry plated six runs in the fourth inning to make it a 10-2 game.
GAME NOTES
  • Kristen Malloy's third inning double was her first collegiate hit.
  • Mallena Wright had three RBIs for Newberry.

  • Scoreless heading into the fourth inning, Haley Simonds' plated the first run before a three-run fifth inning home run gave Newberry a 6-0 lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • D&E threatened in the third inning, when back-to-back singles by Olivia Smith and Amy Fincham put two runners on.
  • A walk by Honesty Holt loaded the bases with two outs, but the Senators were unable to push the run across.
  • Ryn Boelter pitched three shutout innings to start the game, and Jenna Evans came on in relief midway through the fourth inning.
  • Newberry scored all seven runs in the next two innings, aided by four unearned runs crossing the plate in the fifth.
GAME NOTES
  • Honesty Holt went 2-for-2, recorded her first multi-hit game of her young career.
  • Holt has hit safely in each of the Senators' first four games.
  • Kayla Gibson recorded her first collegiate hit in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
