Men's Soccer Takes Center Stage for Night Game vs. Charleston (W. Va.)

Looking for its second win in a row, Davis & Elkins welcomes Charleston (W. Va.) to Nuttall Field for a Wednesday night clash in the MEC. It will be the first night game for the 2019 season for Davis & Elkins, a team that defeated Concord by a 2-0 count last time out. The contest is also the only Senator athletic event on the docket for Wednesday. Freshman Nicholas Burnz recorded his first collegiate goal against the Mountain Lions in the victory as the Senator offense maintained consistent pressure throughout the contest. Senior goalie Everton Carvalho made three second half saves for the Senators, who amassed 12 corner kicks in the game.
 
Charleston will come to Elkins following a 3-0 shutout of Notre Dame (Ohio) last Sunday. The Golden Eagles recorded all three of their goals in the second half of play. UC defeated Wheeling in last year's MEC Championship game by a 2-0 tally.

Women's Soccer Opens Up MEC Slate Thursday vs. Charleston (W. Va.)

Set for its third straight home contest to begin the 2019 season, Davis & Elkins will officially begin the Mountain East Conference era with its first conference matchup against Charleston (W. Va.) on Thursday. The Senators will look to get back into the win column following a 3-1 defeat to a tough Walsh squad last Saturday. Senior Asheli Freed scored her second goal in as many games and freshman goalkeeper Katie Clarke made a pair of saves in 64 minutes of action.
 
Charleston dispatched of Tiffin, 4-1, last time out on September 15. McKenna Sullivan converted on two goals in the victory and Kaylee Hensley made five saves.

Volleyball Returns Home to Host Tri-Match with Bloomsburg and Alderson Broaddus

After playing in two tournaments that spanned eight matches to begin the 2019 season, Davis & Elkins will return home to begin a five-match homestand beginning on Friday. Hosting a tri-match with Bloomsburg and Alderson Broaddus, D&E opens the day at 3:00 PM against the Huskies. Bloomsburg and Alderson Broaddus will play on The McDonnell Center court at 5:00 PM before the Senators take the floor against the Battlers at 7:00 PM to cap the evening. The Senators went 2-2 in the Vulcan Invitational, defeating IUP (3-2) and Lake Erie (3-1) and losing to Cal U (3-1) and Daemen (3-0). Kaitlyn LaCour continues her strong start to the 2019 season, earning all-tournament honors for her efforts in the Vulcan Invitational. Mya Mintschenko and Raleighanne Weaver have also added 40 or more kills each for the Senators, while Sarah Warren is sixth in the MEC in assists (181).

Triathlon Set for Program's First Home Event on Saturday

The Davis & Elkins triathlon team will hold its inaugural home event over Homecoming weekend, hosting the Senator "Splash-N-Dash" event on Saturday morning. The event, which is open to the public, will consist of two different races on Saturday morning. The "splash-n-dash" consists of a 300-yard pool swim followed by a two-mile run in addition to the 5k road race. Individuals can register on race day at the Hermanson center Pool area for $20 the day of the event.
 
Natalia Hidalgo Martinez finished second in the SavageMan Triathlon on September 13-15 at Deep Creek. Rut Tallon Arranz earned a seventh-place finish, while Eleonora Pierre paced the Senators in the prologue event last time out.

Cross Country Returns to Action at Lock Haven Invite

Competing for the first time in two weeks, the Davis & Elkins men's and women's cross country team will return to action against some quality competition at the Lock Haven Invite on Saturday morning. Both squads won the Bethany Invite on September 7, while Claire Otte won the event on the women's side with a time of 22:38. The time was the second fastest in the history of the invite and set a school record time for a 6K race. Meanwhile, the men picked up their second win at the Bethany Invite and first since 2016. Matthew Chapman completed the 8K course in 26:41, the fastest time in course history.
 
The Lock Haven Invite will consist of 33 men's teams and 38 women's teams at the time of release. Each race will have about 500 runners, giving the Senators plenty of competition in their second event of the season.

Women's Tennis Opens Up Fall Schedule With ITA Regionals
September 21-23 | Millersville, Pa.
 
Women's tennis will begin their fall season on Saturday, September 20th at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship at Millersville University. This will be the Senators' first competition in the Atlantic Region following the move to the Mountain East Conference this season. Three newcomers will see their first collegiate action over the weekend, with Rosalie Naber, Elysia Cain and Cara Long making their debuts in both singles and doubles play. Returners Taylour Newman and Ester Bolmenas, who primarily held down the top doubles spot last season will be competing in the main draw for doubles. Newman will also compete in the main draw for singles, while senior Laura Vargas will compete in her first ITA for Davis & Elkins, playing singles and pairing with Cain in doubles.
 
Draws will be released later this week, with play to begin on Saturday and continue through Sunday and Monday.

Women's Soccer Continues Busy Week on Saturday Afternoon Against Concord

Davis & Elkins will conclude its early-season homestand against unbeaten Concord on Saturday afternoon as part of Homecoming weekend. It will be the first game of a soccer doubleheader at Nuttall Field on Saturday. Three players have scored a goal this season for Davis & Elkins, with freshman Nariana Nealy and senior Angelina Horan joining Freed with tallies in 2019. The Senators have outshot their opponents 27-17 over the course of the first two matches, knocking 13 shots on target under a revamped style ushered in by Declan McGill.
 
Concord plays host to King (Tenn.) on Wednesday before traveling to Elkins to begin MEC play.

Wrapping up a busy athletics slate on Saturday night, Davis & Elkins plays host to Salem (W. Va.) beginning at 7:00 PM. D&E is outshooting its opponents by a 21-17 margin through two games this season and has allowed just seven shots on target against. Matteo Ghezzi, who assisted on the Burnz goal against Concord, has been one of the most potent threats offensively for Davis & Elkins so far in the young season.
 
Salem hosts Pikeville on September 18 before traveling to Elkins. The Tigers have mustered just one goal through four games in 2019.
