Volleyball Gears Up for Four Matches at Cal U Tournament

Davis & Elkins will compete in the Cal U Tournament on Friday and Saturday, facing off against Cal U (12:00 PM), IUP (3:00 PM), Lake Erie (10:00 AM) and Daemen (1:00 PM). Davis & Elkins dropped a pair of five-set matches to start the season against Shepherd and Georgian Court before ending the VSU Invitational with a 3-0 sweep against host Virginia State on September 8. Kaitlyn LaCour (32 kills, 42 digs) and Mya Mintschenko (30 kills, 7 aces) led the Senator offense throughout the first three matches, while Sarah Warren (32 assists) and Jessa Henry (39 assists) were the two leading distributors. Kelly Smith (48 digs, 4 aces) and Lillie Mueller (11 kills, 11 block assists) have also played in all 13 sets this season.

Triathlon Visits Maryland for Extended SavageMan Race
September 13-15, 2019 | Deep Creek, Md.
 
Competing in its first race since September 1, the Davis & Elkins triathlon team will return to action with the three-day SavageMan event in Deep Creek. The Senators finished third during the Collegiate SoHo Dam Triathlon in Tennessee last time out, while head coach Chris Hammer earned a bronze medal at the ITU World Championships in the same weekend. Natalia Hidalgo Martinez paced the Senators last time out, finishing in 45:37, while Elenora Pierre followed in second in 45:46.

Women's Soccer Continues Home Slate Saturday Against Walsh

Looking to keep the momentum from an impressive 4-1 victory to open the season, the Senators women's soccer team welcomes Walsh to Nuttall Field on Saturday at noon. Nariana Nealy found the back of the net twice and added an assist on Asheli Freed's opening goal last time out, and the duo aims to continue the strong offensive play heading into the second contest of the season. Chelsi Jadoo won the Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week award, marking the first D&E student-athlete to win a weekly award since joining the league. Head coach Declan McGill noted how pleased he was with the effort across the board in his postgame comments following his first coaching victory at Davis & Elkins on September 8.
 
Walsh comes to West Virginia with a 1-1 overall mark following a 4-0 loss to Southern Indiana on September 8. The Cavaliers will travel to Saginaw Valley on September 12 before taking on the Senators. Hannah Bowman has scored the lone goal of the 2019 season for Walsh, while Mickey McClanahan had made 19 saves in two matches.
 
Men's Golf Commences Fall Portion of 2019 with Glade Springs Invite

The new-look Davis & Elkins men's golf team begins its season with the Glade Springs Invite. Comprised of a roster with six freshmen, head coach J.D. Lamm will look for one of his new players to step up this season. Patrick Smith returns for his sophomore year after shooting a 76, 78 and 83 to finish 62nd at last year's event. Davis & Elkins was picked fourth in the MEC Preseason Poll back in August.

Women's Golf Returns to West Virginia for Glade Springs Invite

The Senators will play in their third tournament of the fall, competing in the Glade Springs Invitational hosted by Charleston (W. Va.). After beginning the season with a pair of tournaments in the Erie area, the Senators finished 16th and tied for 14th in the Evann Parker Memorial and Michael Corbett Fall Classic. Dorothy Romanek set a school record score for a round with an 82 in the first round of the Michael Corbett Fall Classic on September 8. Victoria Adkins was the top finisher for Davis & Elkins during the Evann Parker Memorial, shooting a 96 and 93.

The Davis & Elkins men's soccer team continues conference play on Sunday, hitting the road for the first time in 2019 with a matchup against Concord. The Senators dropped their home and season opener to Notre Dame College, 2-0, on September 8. Everton Carvalho made two saves for the Senators last time out and Markus Just led the charge offensively with two shots. Squaring off for the first time since 2012, Davis & Elkins defeated Concord, 7-2, in their last meeting.
 
Concord played to a scoreless draw against Frostburg State to begin conference play on September 8 and will face West Liberty on Wednesday (September 11) before taking on the Senators. The Mountain Lions opened the season with a 1-0 victory against King (Tenn.) on September 5.
