Women's Lacrosse Ends Season with Thrilling Win over Ohio Valley

ELKINS, W.Va. - Senior Angelina Horan and freshman Ryann Sumner once again led the Senators to an important win with a late comeback on Senior Day.

Even though the visitors started very strong scoring five goals in a row, D&E started its shy comeback and didn't get too far behind.

The first one to score was the senior Angelina Horan, firing an unstoppable shot in the sixth minute. Horan still scored one more and gave an assist to Hannah Bond.

Ryann Sumner also scored two goals in the first period. First, assisted by Bond, and the second one was a free position shot with 1:22 minutes left on the clock to cut the deficit to 5-8 before halftime.

After the break, Davis & Elkins kept the high energy, getting two more goals. Seana Soika scored off of an assist by Horan, and Sumner scored on free position shot.

Even though the visitors managed to score two more goals, D&E did not give up and was finally able to tie the game at 10-10 when Horan scored one more, followed by Sumner, who scored twice.

The visitors jumped ahead one last time before the Senators tied again. The double Sumner and Horan scored two goals each to increase Davis & Elkins' advantage.

The Fighting Scots still scored one last goal but it wasn't enough to keep them alive in the game.

The senior Ebele De La Bay Coffie finished her last game for the Senators with a total of ten saves.

The Senators closed their season with this 14-12 win.

Besides Horan and Coffie, the seniors Casey Johnson, Savannah Stanford, and Morgan Graham were honored for their contribution to the women's lacrosse program at Davis & Elkins College.
