The Senators Men's Tennis team closed out their 2019 season with a match at future Mountain East opponent West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday in Buckhannon.
The Bobcats are currently ranked #4 in the Atlantic region, and have four regionally ranked singles players and a nationally ranked doubles team, and showed that talent on Tuesday in a 7-0 victory.
West Virginia Wesleyan is the two-time defending Mountain East Men's Tennis Champion, and won the MEC Regular Season title.
In doubles, the 26th ranked team of Carlos Dodero and Maycon Dias were dominant in a 6-0 victory at #1 doubles.
Jacob Bowman and
Mason Schoonover, playing in their first match together as a pair this season, came the closest, falling 6-2 at #3 doubles.
Singles matches were competitive throughout.
Andrew Shand played well in a 6-2, 6-4 loss to the Atlantic Region's sixth ranked player, Carlos Dodero, at #3 singles.
Alejandro Meseguer fought hard at #2 singles, against the Atlantic's #8 ranked player Maycon Dias, falling 6-2, 6-3.
Cordel Bostic played a tight first set against regionally-ranked Harry Simiaoforidis at #5 singles in a 6-4, 6-0 decision for his last match at D&E.
Alvaro Legoinha split sets at #4 singles, coming up short in the tiebreaker, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.
Obert Matthew Mulyadi finished off the day with an exciting match at #1 singles against the Atlantic Region's eighth ranked player, Lukas Laipold.
Mulyadi rallied from 6-1, 4-1 down to force a second set tiebreaker, pressuring his opponent and finishing points with big forehand winners in a 7-6 (7-4) second set.
The super-tiebreaker was yet again exciting, but Laipold closed off the match for a 6-1, 6-7 (4), 10-7 victory.
