Taylour Newman closed out her freshman season with big wins at #1 singles and #1 doubles against future Mountain East opponent West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday at the Thomas Tennis Center.
The Bobcats took the doubles point with a pair of 6-0 wins at #2 and #3 doubles, but
Taylour Newman and
Ester Bolmenas were sharp in their 6-1 win at the top spot.
Newman carried over her strong performance into singles play, taking the first set against Sai Sakamoto 6-0, and closing her opponent out in a 6-0, 6-3 win at #1 singles.
Valentine Schwartz won the first set of her match at #4 singles, but ultimately would fall in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Karin Rosario lost a tight first set at #5 singles 6-4, but would rally to win the second set 6-2. Rosario came up just short in the super tiebreaker, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.
