Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Senators extinguish Firebirds in big win

ELKINS, W.Va - Ryan Sumner doesn't find difficulties to lead Senators to big home win against University of the District of Columbia this afternoon on Nuttall Field.

Another important player in today's game was, once again, Angelina Horan, who scored three of D&E's eight goals in the first period. Sumner added four more goals to the count.

Before the end of the half, Morgan Graham and Anahi Gomez still scored one each to increase the advantage to 9-0. However, the visitors managed to get their first one in with only eight seconds left in the half.

Right after the break, not having any subs available, the visitors went a player down, being forced to play the rest of the game with the disadvantage, and still scored a goal.

The Senators didn't have anything to do with that, so they kept on playing and finding the space in the visitors defense.

Seana Soika scored the first two for D&E in the half, one was a free position shot, and the other off of an assist by Horan, who scored her fourth in the game.

Surelys Baez scored her first goal in the season ten minutes into the half, assisted by Horan, to make it 13-2.

The Firebirds' keeper stopped D&E from scoring even more. However, with eight minutes left on the clock, Sumner scored her fifth for the Senators. After that, D&E slowed the game down for good, not forcing anymore and keeping control over UDC.

The visitors still scored one last goal before the end of the match, closing it at 14-6 for D&E.

The Senators will get back on the road to play University of Findlay this Friday for another G-MAC contest. The game is set for 4:00 PM.
