ELKINS - Angelina Horan scored her first two goals in her debut as a Senator, but Davis & Elkins is outscored by Lincoln Memorial 15-4 in their season opener.
The Senators hosted a tough opponent this afternoon on Nuttall Field. The visitors scored the first goal of the game only two minutes into the half.
Just about a minute later, Horan scored her first goal for the Senators, tying the game on an unassisted effort.
The visitors picked up a four goal run and it wasn't until the 17th minute when D&E scored its second goal of the day, as freshman Ryann Sumner found the net.
Anahi Gomez was the third scorer the Senators. Gomez's goal came with 1:56 minutes before halftime, making it 8-3.
The Railsplitters continued to score after the break, but Horan added her second goal of the game before time expired. The final score was 15-4 for Lincoln Memorial.
Davis & Elkins shot 23 times, while the visitors made goalie Ebele de la Bay Coffie stop a total of 11 shots throughout the contest. Seana Soika had five ground balls in the effort.
The Senators will return to action on March 3rd against Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC for a non-conference matchup. The game is set for 4:30 PM.
