ELKINS, W. Va. – Junior guard
Myles Monroe tallied a team-high 12 points on Monday evening, but Cal U (Pa.) connected on 51.5% of its shots and built a 39-24 lead at the break before ultimately handing Davis & Elkins an 86-63 loss in nonconference play at the McDonnell Center.
Davis & Elkins (2-3) attempted to will its way back throughout the half, trimming the deficit to single digits on several occasions, but the Vulcans (2-2) quickly made it a 20-point game in the second half and didn't look back. Monroe went 5-of-8 from the floor for his third double-digit scoring game of the season.
Cal U had four of its five starters finish in double digits, led by Luke House, who poured in a game-high 21 points. The Vulcans held an 11 to four edge in made three-point field goals and outrebounded the Senators, 41-25.
Patrick Wilburn chipped in 11 points of the bench, sinking half of the Senators' three-pointers.
Donte Doleman and
Erkam Kiris had eight points each for D&E, while the duo
Terrance Lakes and
Emre Yildirim has seven points and three assists apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Vulcans pounced on D&E early, posting an 8-0 run to start the contest. Monroe nailed a jumper to bring the deficit to just two at 10-8 with 14:38 showing on the first half clock. Monroe converted two layups at 9:16 and 8:43, slicing the Cal U lead to four on each occasion.
- The Vulcans capped the half on an 18-7 run for a 39-24 edge at the intermission. Kiris dropped in a layup in the second half to bring the Senators as close as they would come for the remainder of the evening, making the score 41-26.
- Cal U found its touch from beyond the arc, canning several three's in a 15-4 run that put the Vulcans ahead comfortably. Wilburn cashed in on a pair of three's around the midway point of the second half, but the Senators could not get within 20 or less the rest of the way.
GAME NOTES
- Monroe recorded his third game with 10 or more points, his second consecutive this season.
- Monday concluded a tough stretch of three games in five days for Davis & Elkins. The Senators went 2-1 in the home-opening stretch to the season, providing plenty of reason for optimism heading into conference play.
- Davis & Elkins was 0-8 from beyond the arc in the first half.
- Foul shooting also bit the Senators in the nonconference matchup, with D&E converting at a 38.5% clip.
