ELKINS, W.Va. - The Davis & Elkins College Softball Team split with Lake Erie College this afternoon at Joni Smith Field, securing a spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament on the final day of the regular season.

The Senators won the first game 5-2, which ultimately locked D&E into the tournament, before falling 8-0 in the second game of the doubleheader.

In game one, the visitors threatened the Senators early, by loading the bases in the top of the first. However, D&E got out of the jam and took the lead in the bottom half when Brittany Wade reached on an dropped throw at first that allowed Kelsie Millner to score from third.

After 1-2-3 innings for both teams in the second and third, Lake Erie was able to get a couple of runs in the fourth inning to take the lead 2-1 after loading the bases for the second time in the game. A single up the middle scored both runs before a heads up throw from Wade to Sydney Turner at third nailed a trailing baserunner.

The Senators would continue to struggle offensively, being retired in order in the fourth and fifth innings as well.

However, the Senators would come back to take the lead in the sixth inning and bat around to score four runs. Jordan Crawford scored the first run on a fielder's choice to short by Millner.

After Alyssa Cairns singled, Wade would go on to hit a double to left field, scoring Millner and Cairns.

After Morgan Tandarich pinch ran for Wade, Sydney Turner singled through the left side to score Tandarich and put the Senators ahead 5-2.

Allie Lapallo pitched the entire game for the Senators and had five strikeouts in her tenth win of the season.
