ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Lacrosse team fell in its season opener to Roberts Wesleyan 15-4 on Thursday at Nuttall Field.
The Senators matched the visitors early in the contest, finding themselves in a 2-2 game midway through the second quarter. However, the visiting Redhawks would grab a pair of goals less than 30 seconds apart to take a 4-2 lead and they never looked back.
Matthew Dyck scored both of the Senators' first half goals in the contest. The first goal came off an assist from
Aidan O'Dwyer and the second was an unassisted effort.
Trevor Nailor scored his first goal as a Senator in the fourth quarter on an unassisted effort.
Kyle Durec scored the final goal for the Senators on the man-advantage off of a pass from
Matt O'Dwyer.
The Senators were outshot in the game 43-22. The visitors had 31 shots on goal, as
Kyle Seago finished with 16 saves. Seago also led the Senators with ground balls in the game.
Among field players,
Brayden McGregor led D&E with five ground balls, while
Steven Wentz and Dyck had four ground balls each.
Wentz led the Senators with four caused turnovers.
Michael Holstein and Nailor had two each.
Davis & Elkins fell behind in faceoffs, as the visitors won 17 of 23.
Roberts Wesleyan was 2-for-7 with the extra man, while the Senators were 1-for-4.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on March 2, as the Senators travel to Washington D.C. The Senators will faceoff against the University of DC with a scheduled start time of 5 p.m.
