ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Basketball team fell to Trevecca Nazarene 87-71 Thursday night at the McDonnell Center.
After taking a quick lead with the first two points of the game and a basket three minutes in to go up 4-3, the visitors of Trevecca grabbed the lead with another three pointer and the Senators were unable to keep pace.
The Trojans hit 10 three pointers in the first half to pull away for the Senators and take a 13-point lead into the break.
The Senators contained Trevecca's hot shooting from behind the arc in the second half, but the Trojans were able to find baskets inside as Davis & Elkins was unable to close the gap.
Jordan McElveen led the way for the Senators in the game, scoring 18 points. McElveen threatened a double-double, finishing with eight rebounds.
Rickenjee Bellevue did find a double-double in the loss, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Bellevue also had two steals and a block.
Kevin Simpson also finished in double figures on the evening, matching Bellevue with 13 points.
As mentioned, Trevecca finished with 14 three points, shooting 50 percent from behind the arc. The Trojans shot 51 percent for the game, while holding the Senators to 40 percent shooting.
Both teams split the rebounds, recording 38 each.
The Senators will look to rebound on Saturday as they host Kentucky Wesleyan for Senior Day. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., with senior day festivities just prior to tipoff.
