RADFORD, Va. - The Davis & Elkins College Men's Basketball team took on NCAA Division I opposition Radford University Tuesday night in the Senators final preseason contest, falling 91-57.
Junior
Trevor English led the way for the Senators on the night, going 10-of-18 from the floor for 21 points in 26 minutes. English also led the Senators with seven rebounds and had one assist in the game.
In the official season opener for the host Highlanders, Davis & Elkins fell behind early and were unable to keep pace with Radford, who jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never trailed.
Davis & Elkins used its entire bench, playing all 15 members available for the Senators in 2018-19.
Behind English's high-scoring night,
Donte Doleman had a big night as well, scoring eight points in 22 minutes. Doleman also had three steals, leading the way for Davis & Elkins. He also finished with three rebounds and two assists.
Nine different Senators scored in the game, with
Dominic Scott-Robinson,
Edmund Parker and
Patrick Wilburn all scoring five points each.
Logan Phillips and
Erkam Kiris had four points apiece.
The Senators also had nine players collect at least one rebound in the game. Kiris, Scott-Robinson, Parker and
Marcus Friend all had three boards each.
Friend led the Senators with five of Davis & Elkins' 11 assists in the game.
Robert Bonar had a pair of assists.
Davis & Elkins shot 37.7 percent on the night and were 7-of-10 from the free-throw line in the game.
The Highlanders shot 52.5 percent from the field in the game and were 18-of-33 from behind the arc.
The Senators will now set their sights on the official season opener on Saturday, as Davis & Elkins hosts the defending NCAA Division II National Champions from Ferris State. Tip off is set for 1 p.m. at the McDonnell Center.
