Softball Splits With Malone

CANTON, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team earned a split with Malone University on Sunday in the first two games of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference series, falling 6-2 before winning 10-4.

The Senators took the lead in the top of the first inning of game one, as Brittany Wade had an RBI single after Alyssa Cairns led off the inning with a double.

However, the Senators would fall behind the hosts, as Malone scored four in the second and two more in the third.

Morgan Tandarich would hit a solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 6-2. However, the Senators would strand two runners on to end the game.

Allie Lapallo tossed 4.1 innings, giving up four earned runs. She recorded two strikeouts in the loss.

In game two, the Senators fell behind early as Malone scored one in the first and then three more runs in the second inning.

Davis & Elkins responded by loading the bases in the third with three singles and then capitalized on back-to-back errors to score a pair of runs and cut the deficit in half.

The score remained the same until the sixth inning when Wade hit a grand slam to put the Senators in the lead 6-4.

In the top of the seventh, the Senators would add to the advantage with four more runs, the first coming off an RBI single from Alyssa Cairns to score Sydney Turner.

Kelsie Millner then followed it up with another RBI single, scoring Katie Manson, who went 3-for-3 in the game with a walk and scored three runs.

Danielle Norton made it 9-4 with a double to right center and Rhetta Persinger capped off the scoring with a RBI single.

The Senators will return to action on Monday with the final two games of the series against Malone. First pitch in the doubleheader is set for 12 p.m. in Canton.
