Senators Sweep Ursuline To Open G-MAC Series

ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Softball team picked up a sweep of Ursuline in G-MAC play on Saturday, winning 1-0 and 3-0 to open the series.

In game one, Allie Lapallo pitched a gem, tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out two.

After the Senators were held scoreless through six innings, Sydney Turner led off the seventh inning for D&E. With a 1-2 count, Turner hit a towering shot just fair down the left field line to give the Senators a walk-off victory.

In game two, the Senators got on the scoreboard in the second inning, as Rhetta Persinger hit a solo homerun over the left-centerfield fence to put D&E up 1-0.

Persinger would then get a single to leadoff in the fifth inning. Amy Fincham pinch ran for Persinger and took second on a sacrifice bunt by Morgan Tandarich.

Fincham then came around to score on a double to straightaway centerfield by Turner.

Later in the inning, Turner would score on a fielding error by Ursuline, giving the Senators a 3-0 lead.

Victoria Krystynak would also pitch a shutout, fanning six batter while allowing seven hits in seven innings of work.

The Senators will return to action tomorrow with the final two games of the series. The doubleheader is set for a 2 p.m. start at Joni Smith Field.
