ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Basketball team's upset bid of No. 14 Kentucky Wesleyan came up short on Saturday, as the Senators fell the Panthers 104-94.
Davis & Elkins (11-13, 6-4 G-MAC) fell behind early to the Panthers (22-2, 9-0 G-MAC), who went on a 17-0 run after the Senators opened the game with the first basket. However, the Senators clawed back into the contest and never let the visitors pull away.
The Senators cut the first-half deficit back to as little as three and went into the break trailing by seven. D&E played the second half within striking distance, but were never able to cut the deficit below five to the G-MAC regular season champions.
A large part of the second half sure came from
Rickenjee Bellevue, who had 16 points and 14 rebounds in the second half after missing much of the first 20 minutes due to foul trouble. Bellevue finished with 18 points and 19 rebounds. He also had a team high four blocks.
Kevin Bracy-Davis led the way for the Senators in scoring, finishing with 30 points. Bracy-Davis also had a double-double, as the senior collected 12 rebounds. He also had three assists and two blocks in the contest.
Donte Doleman and
Teron Owens also finished in double figures for the Senators. Doleman had 12 points, while Owens came off the bench to score 18.
The Senators will return to action on Thursday with their final home game of the season. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. against Malone.
