Box Score 2 XENIA, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Senators Softball team picked up six awards at the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Banquet on Wednesday night.
Alyssa Cairns and Alexandra Lapallo led the way for the Senators on the night, with both players being named to the G-MAC All-Conference First Team.
Cairns was selected as one of the three outfield first-team selections after playing in all 52 games for D&E this season. The freshman had 64 hits, batting a team high .398, with 19 doubles and four homeruns. Cairns also had 27 walks en route to a .484 on-base percentage. She was also third on the team with 42 RBIs and scored a team high 46 runs. Cairns was also selected to the G-MAC All-Freshman team.
Lapallo was also selected to the G-MAC All-Conference First Team as a pitcher. The two-way player had 22-13 record this season in the circle with a 1.61 earned run average. The sophomore tossed 218 innings, allowing just 50 earned runs on 178 hits and 32 walks, a WHIP under 1. Lapallo also had 124 strikeouts.
Taylor Norton, Danielle Norton, and Katie Manson were all named to the G-MAC All-Conference Second Team.
Taylor Norton was named as the second team first baseman after playing in every game for the Senators in 2016. Norton hit .306 on the season with 52 hits and 24 of them as extra-base hits. The senior had five homeruns with 44 RBIs and 41 runs scored. Norton was also second on the team with 20 walks, leading to a .392 on-base percentage.
Danielle Norton was recognized as a second-team outfielder. The junior was second on the team with a .386 batting average and third on the team with a .405 on-base percentage. Norton led the team with 20 doubles and tied for the team lead with five homeruns. She also led the team with 50 RBIs and had 39 runs scored.
Katie Manson also earned second team honors as the designated player for D&E. Manson was third on the team with a .326 batting average, but second on the Senators with a .418 on-base percentage. The freshman had 41 hits with four doubles and a homerun. She finished with 18 RBIs and 12 runs scored in 43 games played.
The Senators will begin the G-MAC Tournament Thursday as the No. 3 seed against No. 4 seed Cedarville in game one of two on the day in Xenia, Ohio.
