Softball Splits With Ursuline To Open G-MAC Series

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - The Davis & Elkins Senators Softball team split with Ursile College at the UC Softball Field to open up its final G-MAC series of the season.

Game One
The Basics:

  • Score: D&E 2 - UC 3
  • Records: Davis & Elkins (31-18, 14-9) – Ursuline (14-23)
  • Winning Pitcher: Humbel, Brittany (6-7), Losing Pitcher: Allie Lapallo (21-12)

How it Happened:

  • The game picked up in the bottom of the second when A. Smith singled for Urusline and advanced to second on the throw. This scored S. Jones, which brought the score to 0-1. Next up, G. Rosshirt singled to score A. Smith. The score at the end of the inning was 0-2. 
  • No one could scratch a run again until the top of the fourth when D. Norton and A. Lapallo both got base hits for the Senators. D. Norton scored on a passed ball, and K. Manson had a base hit to score A. Lapallo. This brought the score to an even 2-2. 
  • The score remained tied until the bottom of the 6th when B. Snow led off the inning by getting a single and stealing second for Ursuline. H. Trent singled to center field, which scored B. Snow. This brought the score to 2-3, which brought them the win in the end.

Game Two
The Basics:

  • Score: D&E 7 - UC 3
  • Records: Davis & Elkins (32-18) – Ursuline (14-24)
  • Winning Pitcher: Victoria Krystynak (9-6), Losing Pitcher: Gina Rosshirt(6-12)

How it Happened:

  • The Senators started off the game by loading the bases in the first inning. D. Norton reached first on a fielder's choice and scored A. Cairns. The Senators couldn't seem to scratch a run after this, leaving the score 1-0.
  • Ursuline answered by B. Humbel singling to center field. A. Brown pinch ran for her and later scored on a ball hit to the pitcher by S. Jones. B. Snow scored, unearned, on a single by L. Leshnack. H. Trent, who reached base by getting hit by a pitch, later on scored by a passed ball. This brought the score at the end of the inning to 1-3.
  • The Senators came back in the top of the second with K. Whoolery doubling to score A. Cairns. D. Norton then singled to score K. Whoolery. This brought the score to an even 3-3.
  • The game remained tied until the top of the fourth when A. Cairns singled for the Senators, followed by a double by Kayla Whoolery. T. Norton grounded out to second base, but this allowed A. Cairns to score. Then D. Norton doubled to center field, scoring K. Whoolery. This brought the Senators ahead 5-3.
  • No one would score again until the top of the sixth when A. Lapallo singled to left field, scoring A. Cairns. 
  • Ursuline couldn't seem to answer back, but the Senators proved they weren't done at the top of the seventh. L. Smith pinch hit for S. Smith and walked. S. Smith then stole second. A. Cairns reached on a fielder's choice, advancing S. Smith to third. K. Whoolery singled, scoring S. Smith. This brought the final score to 7-3. 

What's Next: 
The Senators remain in Pepper Pike, wrapping up the four-game series against Ursiline College on Sunday at the UC Softball Field.
