CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team came from behind Saturday to pull off a 5-4 victory in the match over Cedarville and claim a share of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship.
Just two days earlier, Cedarville topped the Senators 5-4 in Elkins to earn at least a share of the regular season championship. Davis & Elkins returned the favor and earned the split by winning the final three points.
Trailing 4-2 after the doubles matches and first three singles matches, the Senators won the next two matches to force a championship deciding fifth point.
In the final point, Jack Clifton trailed Joel Clark 4-5 in a third-set tiebreaker. Clifton won the fifth point to stave off elimination and then worked the match to a deciding seventh point, which he won to earn the Co-Championship for the Senators. Clifton defeated Clark (4-6), 6-2, 7-6 (7).
Clifton and Vincent Hamon led the Senators to their only point in doubles action, winning 8-5.
Hamon also helped the Senators in the comeback, winning 6-1, 6-2 in number one singles.
Pierre Baudier also had a key victory in the comeback, winning the number two singles match 6-3, 6-1.
The championship is the third for the Senators in three seasons of competition since joining the G-MAC in its creation.
