ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Senators overcame a tough first half to defeat Saint Augustine's University 85-81 Saturday afternoon in the McDonnell Center.
The Senators struggled at times in the first half, and trailed the Falcons 37-35 after 20 minutes. D&E shot 48 percent in the first half, but struggled from the line, shooting just 40 percent in free-throw attempts.
In the second half, the Senators shot 54 percent, while shooting 71 percent from the line to outscore SAU 50-44.
Kevin Bracy-Davis led the Senators with 23 points in the contest, going 6-of-11 from the field and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. Bracy-Davis also chipped in with five rebounds and three assists.
Rickenjee Bellevue led the Senators on the glass and grabbed a double-double in a key performance for D&E. Bellevue finished with 15 rebounds and 12 points in the game. He also had two assists and two steals.
Donte Doleman and
Kevin Simpson joined the other two in double figures. Doleman had 13 points and four rebounds off the bench. Simpson finished with 12 points and four steals.
Jordan McElveen led the team with six assists in the game, accompanied by nine points.
Davis & Elkins will have a quick turnaround, as the Senators host West Virginia Wesleyan Monday night. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. in the McDonnell Center.
