How It Happened:
- A second half barrage of points helped WV Wesleyan College push past Davis & Elkins College, 89-64, on Tuesday, January 26.
- A closely contested first half ended in style with D&E's Stephanie Wooten nailing a three-point basket before the buzzer to limit the margin to 6 points at the break.
- However, the Bobcats put on a charge in the third quarter with a 14-5 scoring run to pull away from the Senators. Wesleyan continued to keep up their fast pace and cemented a 15-point lead at the end of the quarter.
- Cold shooting from D&E meant they couldn't conjure up a fourth quarter rally and fell to an 84-69 loss in The McDonnell Center.
- Wooten led the Senators on offense with 20 points, Caitlyn O'Neal followed up with 12 points and Tajee Pledger chipped in with 10 points. Sydney Turner led on defense with 8 rebounds.
- D&E shot 30% from beyond the arc compared to 36% by WVWC. The Senators also had 18 turnovers on the night compared to 12 from the Bobcats.
Senator Synopsis:
"Hats off to Wesleyan for playing really hard and knocking down some big shots. A college basketball game is 40 minutes long and you cannot expect to play hard for 25-30 minutes and get a win. Not at this level! "– Coach Jason Asbell.
What's Next:
The Senators travel to face G-MAC foe Cedarville University on Thursday, January 28 for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
