How It Happened:

  • A game high 28 points from Stephanie Wooten helped Davis & Elkins College surge past Trevecca Nazarene University on Thursday, January 14.
  • D&E got the game off to a fast start courtesy of a three-point basket from Sydney Turner. A further string of baskets from beyond the arc helped the team build an 11-point lead by the end of the first quarter.
  • A strong defense saw the Senators extend their lead to 18 points at the half. However, the Trojans mounted a charge to cut the gap back down to 9 points early in the third quarter.
  • Wooten lit up from the outside scoring 3 consecutive three-point baskets over a 2-minute stretch to keep D&E ahead by double digits. The junior guard showed why she leads the G-MAC in points per game this season finishing with 28, 23 of which came in the second half.
  • Kali Wilburn followed up Tuesday night's performance with 16 points, 10 rebound and 3 steals for the night. Shanda Howell went 3 for 3 from outside and ended the game with 9 points. Turner chipped in with 9 point, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.
  • The Senators would put the game beyond the Trojans in the fourth quarter and coasted to an 82-63 win.

What's Next: 

The Senators host Kentucky-Wesleyan University in their third conference game of the week on Saturday, January 16 at 2:00 p.m. in The McDonnell Center.
