Battlers edge Senators at home

Box Score

ELKINS, WV – In a classic rivalry, ABU edges D&E 2-1 to earn the win.

The Basics

Score: Alderson Broaddus 2, Davis & Elkins 1
 Records: ABU (4-1-0, 7-1-1), D&E (1-5-2, 0-4-2)
 Location: Nuttall Field, Elkins, WV
The Short Story: After earning a PK and leading 1-0 for a large portion of the game, the Senators fall to ABU 2-1.

How it Happened

  •  D&E held possession early looking for opportunities to attack the AB defense.
  • D&E was awarded a PK only 8 minutes into action when the AB goalkeeper came out hard on a challenge.  Lukas Gross-Pupendahl put the PK in the back of the net to place the Senators in the lead, 1-0.
  • 2nd half saw plenty of counter attacks by both teams, looking to swing momentum in their favor.
  • With 27th minutes left in the half, AB's Deshawn Parker headed a ball bound for the back of the net, only to be robbed by GK Daniel Nock.
  • In the 77th minute AB found the scoreboard thanks to a beautiful header from Alec Andall.
  • In the 82st minute AB's Michael Gallardo took a corner kick that hit off the near post of the goal and defected off a D&E player, crossing the goal line to make the score 1-2 in favor of AB.
  • With only 3:40 left on the clock Oliver Bienias tested the AB keeper with a shot from 25 yards, the rebound fell to Alex Samarzich who missed just wide of the net.
  • In the last 2 minutes of play D&E had chances from Ross Stewart and Lukas Gross-Puppendahl but couldn't find the equalizer.

Senator Perspective
"A game against AB is always bound to be entertaining and intense and this match didn't disappoint."  stated coach Greg Myers.  "We had some good chances but they were just able to edge us this time."

Battler Perspective

"I thought it was a typical AB/D&E rivalry.  Sometimes not the prettiest, sometimes the goals don't come in the run of play like you want them to." state coach Scott Phipps.  "At the end of the day, 22 guys, 11 on each side, working their hearts out to try and get a victory.  Just like most of the games we play it was down to a 1 goal game and we just happened to get on top this time."

Up next for the Senators, they travel to play Cal PA on Sunday, October 4th.
